  • The message center is not operating correctly

  • PRESS the message center INFO button. If the message center display is still blank, INSTALL a new instrument cluster (IC). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The message center switch does not operate correctly
  • Wiring, terminals or connectors
  • Message center switch
  • Instrument cluster (IC)
  • The CHECK TRAC CONTROL warning is inoperative
  • Instrument cluster (IC)
  • CHECK the traction control system for correct operation.
    • If the traction control system operates correctly, INSTALL a new instrument cluster (IC). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The TURN SIGNAL ON message is inoperative
  • Instrument cluster (IC)
  • CHECK the turn signal indicators for correct operation.
    • If the turn signal indicators do not operate correctly, go to Pinpoint Test X .
    • If the turn signal indicators operate correctly, INSTALL a new instrument cluster (IC). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM message is inoperative
  • Instrument cluster (IC)
  • CHECK the charging system warning indicator for correct operation.
    • If the charging system warning indicator does not operate correctly, go to Pinpoint Test U .
    • If the charging system warning indicator operates correctly, INSTALL a new instrument cluster (IC). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE warning is inoperative
  • Instrument cluster (IC)
  • CHECK the brake warning indicator for correct operation.
    • If the brake warning indicator does not operate correctly, go to Pinpoint Test L .
    • If the brake warning indicator operates correctly, INSTALL a new instrument cluster (IC). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The LOW FUEL LEVEL message is inoperative
  • Instrument cluster (IC)
  • CHECK the fuel gauge for correct operation.
    • If the fuel gauge operates correctly, INSTALL a new instrument cluster (IC). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The LOW OIL PRESSURE warning is inoperative
  • Instrument cluster (IC)
  • CHECK the oil pressure gauge for correct operation.
    • If the oil pressure gauge does not operate correctly, go to Pinpoint Test G .
    • If the oil pressure gauge operates correctly, INSTALL a new instrument cluster (IC). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The CHECK FUEL CAP message is inoperative/always on
  • PCM
  • Instrument cluster (IC)
  • The DRIVER DOOR, PASSENGER DOOR, AND TRUNK AJAR warning is inoperative
  • Instrument cluster (IC)
  • CHECK the interior lamps for correct operation.
    • If the interior lamps operate correctly, INSTALL a new instrument cluster (IC). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The PARK BRAKE ON message is inoperative
  • Instrument cluster (IC)
  • CHECK the brake warning indicator for correct operation.
    • If the brake warning indicator does not operate correctly, go to Pinpoint Test L .
    • If the brake warning indicator operates correctly, INSTALL a new instrument cluster (IC). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
Symptom Chart - Warning Chimes

  • All the chimes are inoperative

  • The key-in-ignition chime is inoperative

  • Key-in-ignition switch (part of the ignition switch)

  • The headlamps on warning chime is inoperative
  • Smart junction box (SJB)
  • The chime sounds when the driver door is ajar (no key in the ignition and the headlamps are off)

  • The performance shift warning chime does not operate correctly

    • If the safety belt and air bag warning indicators operate correctly, INSTALL a new instrument cluster (IC). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The message center switch tone is inoperative
  • Instrument cluster (IC)
  • CHECK the operation of the message center switch.
    • If the message center switch do not operate correctly, go to Pinpoint Test AH .
    • If the message center switch operate correctly, INSTALL a new instrument cluster (IC). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
