Axle Shaft: Removal

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING .
- Remove the differential housing cover. For additional information, refer to Differential Housing Cover .
- Remove the rear brake disc. For additional information, refer to REAR DISC BRAKE .
- Remove the rear wheel speed sensor. For additional information, refer to VEHICLE DYNAMIC SYSTEMS .
- Remove the differential pinion shaft.
- Remove and discard the differential pinion shaft lock bolt.
- Remove the differential pinion shaft.
- Remove the axle shaft U-washer.
- Push in on the axle shaft.
- Remove the U-washer.
- Remove the axle shaft.
NOTE:
Damage to the rear brake anti-lock sensor may occur if it is not removed before the axle shaft U-washer.
NOTE:
Do not damage the rubber O-ring in the axle shaft grooves.
NOTE:
Do not damage the axle shaft oil seal.
