Pinpoint Test H: The Overhead Console (With Moonroof) Illumination Is Inoperative
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2009 Mercury Grand Marquis and 2009 Ford Crown Victoria. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Refer to appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article, Cluster and Panel Illumination for schematic and connector information.
Normal Operation
With the parking lamps on, the driver door module (DDM) supplies a variable voltage which is distributed to the HVAC module and the overhead console (with moonroof) on circuit 19 (LB/RD). The overhead console is grounded on circuit 676 (PK/OG).
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Overhead console (with moonroof)
PINPOINT TEST H: THE OVERHEAD CONSOLE (WITH MOONROOF) ILLUMINATION IS INOPERATIVE
NOTE:
Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
- H1 CHECK THE HEATING VENTILATION AIR CONDITIONING (HVAC) MODULE ILLUMINATION IS OPERATIVE
- With the parking lamps on, rotate the instrument panel dimmer switch to the maximum brightness position.
- Does the HVAC module illuminate correctly?
- YES : Go to H2.
- NO : Go to Pinpoint Test C .
- H2 CHECK CIRCUIT 19 (LB/RD) FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect: Overhead Console (With Moonroof) C9013a
- Disconnect: Overhead Console (With Moonroof) C9013b
- Measure the voltage between the overhead console (with moonroof) C9013b-12, circuit 19 (LB/RD), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- YES : Go to H3.
- NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- H3 CHECK CIRCUIT 676 (PK/OG) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between the overhead console (with moonroof) C9013a-3, circuit 696 (PK/OG), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : INSTALL a new overhead console (with moonroof). TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
