Pinpoint Test C: A Single Mirror Does Not Function with Switch Logic

Normal Operation 

The exterior mirror control switch is supplied voltage from the central junction box (CJB) through circuit 1523 (DG) and ground through circuit 57 (BK). The exterior mirror control switch activates the LH exterior mirror up and down positions by switching voltage and ground on circuits 940 (DB/OG) and 945 (YE/BK). The exterior mirror control switch activates the LH exterior mirror left and right positions by switching voltage and ground on circuits 942 (RD/OG) and 945 (YE/BK). The exterior mirror control switch activates the RH exterior mirror up and down positions by switching voltage and ground on circuits 943 (VT/OG) and 945 (YE/BK). The exterior mirror control switch activates the RH exterior mirror left and right positions by switching voltage and ground on circuits 944 (DG/OG) and 945 (YE/BK). The exterior mirror control switch must be in the appropriate (left or right) position for the desired mirror to operate.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

PINPOINT TEST C: A SINGLE MIRROR DOES NOT FUNCTION WITH SWITCH LOGIC 

  1. C1 CHECK THE MIRROR MOVEMENT (LEFT/RIGHT)  
    • Operate the LH and RH exterior mirrors in the left and right direction.
    • Do the exterior mirrors move left and right?  
    1. YES  : Go to  C2.
    2. NO  : Go to  C3.
  2. C2 CHECK THE MIRROR MOVEMENT (UP/DOWN)  
    • Operate the LH and RH exterior mirrors in the up and down direction.
    • Do the exterior mirrors move up and down?  
    1. YES  : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : Go to  C4.
  3. C3 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE INOPERATIVE MIRROR  
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Inoperative Exterior Mirror C516 or C622

      NOTE: Position the exterior mirror control switch to the LH or RH mirror position.
    • While operating the exterior mirror control switch in the left position, measure the voltage between ground and exterior mirror:
      • (LH) C516-3, circuit 942 (RD/OG) harness side.
      • (RH) C622-3, circuit 944 (DG/OG) harness side.
    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?  
    1. YES  : CHECK the LH or RH exterior mirror jumper harness between the vehicle harness and the exterior mirror motor for open or shorted circuits and damaged or pushed-out pins. If the jumper harness is not OK, REPAIR the jumper harness. If the jumper harness cannot be repaired, INSTALL a new exterior mirror. REFER to Exterior Mirror . If the jumper harness is OK, INSTALL a new exterior mirror motor. REFER to Exterior Mirror Motor . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : Go to  C5.
  4. C4 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE INOPERATIVE MIRROR  
    • Disconnect: Inoperative Exterior Mirror C516 or C622

      NOTE: Position the exterior mirror control switch to the LH or RH mirror position.
    • While operating the exterior mirror control switch in the up position, measure the voltage between ground and exterior mirror:
      • (LH) C516-1, circuit 940 (DB/OG) harness side.
      • (RH) C622-1, circuit 943 (VT/OG) harness side.
    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?  
    1. YES  : CHECK the LH or RH exterior mirror jumper harness between the vehicle harness and the exterior mirror motor for open or shorted circuits and damaged or pushed-out pins. If the jumper harness is not OK, REPAIR the jumper harness. If the jumper harness cannot be repaired, INSTALL a new exterior mirror. REFER to Exterior Mirror . If the jumper harness is OK, INSTALL a new exterior mirror motor. REFER to Exterior Mirror Motor . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : Go to  C6.
  5. C5 CHECK CIRCUIT 942 (RD/OG) OR CIRCUIT 944 (DG/OG) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: Exterior Mirror Control Switch C527
    • NOTE: LH mirror only.
    • Measure the resistance between exterior mirror control switch C527-1, circuit 942 (RD/OG) harness side and LH exterior mirror C516-3, circuit 942 (RD/OG) harness side.

      NOTE: RH mirror only.
    • Measure the resistance between exterior mirror control switch C527-2, circuit 944 (DG/OG) harness side and RH exterior mirror C622-3, circuit 944 (DG/OG) harness side.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?  
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new exterior mirror control switch. REFER to Exterior Mirror Control Switch . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. C6 CHECK CIRCUIT 940 (DB/OG) OR CIRCUIT 943 (VT/OG) FOR AN OPEN  
    • Disconnect: Exterior Mirror Control Switch C527
    • NOTE: LH mirror only.
    • Measure the resistance between exterior mirror control switch C527-6, circuit 940 (DB/OG) harness side and LH exterior mirror C516-1, circuit 940 (DB/OG) harness side.

      NOTE: RH mirror only.
    • Measure the resistance between exterior mirror control switch C527-5, circuit 943 (VT/OG) harness side and RH exterior mirror C622-1, circuit 943 (VT/OG) harness side.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?  
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new exterior mirror control switch. REFER to Exterior Mirror Control Switch . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
