Pinpoint Test D: DTC C1885 - Air Suspension RR Height Sensor Circuit Failure

Normal Operation
The vehicle dynamics module (VDM) sends power to the height sensor along circuit 417 (VT/OG) and the voltage returns along circuit 432 (BK/PK). The sensor sends the position signal back to the VDM along circuit 427 (PK/BK).
- DTC C1885 Air Suspension RR Height Sensor Circuit Failure - With the ignition in the RUN position, if the height sensor is reading less than 0.5 volt or more than 4.5 volts, DTC C1885 will be set.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Air suspension height sensor
- VDM
PINPOINT TEST D: DTC C1885 - AIR SUSPENSION RR HEIGHT SENSOR CIRCUIT FAILURE
NOTE:
Use the Flex Probe Kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multi-meter probes.
- D1 CHECK THE HEIGHT SENSOR (HGTSNVOLT) PID
- Turn the air suspension switch to the OFF position.
- Disconnect the lower end of the air suspension height sensor.
- Connect the diagnostic tool.
- Key in ON position.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: DataLogger: VDM
- Monitor the HGTSNVOLT PID while slowly moving the air suspension height sensor through its full range of motion.
- Does the height sensor PID display vary from 0.5 volt to 4.5 volts?
- YES : INSPECT the height sensor electrical connector for corrosion and damage. REPAIR as necessary. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- NO : CONNECT the lower end of the air suspension height sensor. Go to D2.
- D2 CHECK THE HEIGHT SENSOR POWER
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Air Suspension Height Sensor C4043
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between air suspension height sensor C4043-1, circuit 432 (BK/PK), harness side and air suspension height sensor C4043-3, circuit 417 (VT/OG), harness side.
- Is the voltage approximately 5 volts?
- D3 CHECK THE AIR SUSPENSION HEIGHT SENSOR GROUND NOTE: Use the battery negative terminal as ground for this test.
- Measure the resistance between air suspension height sensor C4043-1, circuit 432 (BK/PK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : Go to D4.
- NO : REPAIR circuit 432 (BK/PK). CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test.
- D4 CHECK CIRCUIT 427 (PK/BK) FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: VDM C2131b
- Measure the resistance between air suspension height sensor C4043-2, circuit 427 (PK/BK), harness side and VDM C2131b-1, circuit 427 (PK/BK), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : Go to D5.
- NO : REPAIR circuit 427 (PK/BK). CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test.
- D5 CHECK CIRCUIT 427 (PK/BK) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between air suspension height sensor C4043-2, circuit 427 (PK/BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- YES : Go to D6.
- NO : REPAIR circuit 427 (PK/BK). CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test.
- D6 CHECK FOR AN INTERMITTENT FAULT
- Connect: VDM C2131b
- Connect: Air Suspension Height Sensor C4043
- Turn the air suspension switch ON.
- Key in ON position.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: DataLogger: VDM
- Monitor the HGTSNVOLT PID while wiggling the wire harness between the air suspension height sensor and the VDM.
- Does the HGTSNVOLT PID ever indicate less than 0.2 volt or greater than 5 volts?
- YES : REPAIR the affected circuit(s). CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test.
- NO : INSTALL a new air suspension height sensor. REFER to Suspension Height Sensor . CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test.
