Removal And Installation

CAUTION:
Do not install a power steering pump pulley that has been removed and installed twice or pulley failure and/or pump damage may occur. Inspect the pulley for paint marks in the web area near the hub. If there are 2 paint marks, discard the pulley and install a new one. If there is one paint mark or no paint marks, use a paint pencil to mark the web area of the pulley near the hub.
- Remove the accessory drive belt from the power steering pump pulley. For additional information, refer to ACCESSORY DRIVE article.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING article.
- Using the special tool, remove the pulley.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Use the special tool to install the pulley.
- If equipped with a fire suppression system, repower the system.
WARNING:
Before servicing a vehicle equipped with a fire suppression system, depower the system by following the procedure in FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM
article. Failure to follow the instructions may result in serious personal injury.
CAUTION:
Do not apply pressure on the power steering pump rotor shaft. Pressure may damage the internal thrust areas of the power steering pump.
