Pinpoint Test B: DTC C1145 (RF), C1155 (LF), C1165 (RR), C1175 (LR) - Wheel Speed Sensor Input Circuit Failure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2009 Mercury Grand Marquis and 2009 Ford Crown Victoria. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Refer to appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article, Vehicle Dynamic Systems for schematic and connector information.

Normal Operation

The wheel speed sensor generates a square wave signal that is sent to the ABS module. The wheel speed sensor circuitry connects to the ABS module connector C135 through 2 wires and a connector at each wheel speed sensor. When the ignition is turned to the RUN position, the ABS module carries out a self-test by sending a reference voltage through the wheel speed sensors and their circuitry to determine if they are functional. Power and ground are supplied to the wheel speed sensors from the ABS module.

The front wheel speed sensors are integral to the wheel hub and bearing assembly and have a serviceable jumper harness connecting the sensor to the main wire harness.

DTC Description Fault Trigger Conditions
  • DTC C1145 - Wheel Speed Sensor RF Input Circuit Failure
  • DTC C1155 - Wheel Speed Sensor LF Input Circuit Failure
  • DTC C1165 - Wheel Speed Sensor RR Input Circuit Failure
  • DTC C1175 - Wheel Speed Sensor LR Input Circuit Failure

When the vehicle speed exceeds 5 km/h (3 mph) or when the ABS module self-test is carried out, if the ABS module detects a short to ground, a short to voltage, an open circuit or a defective wheel speed sensor, the corresponding DTC will be set.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

PINPOINT TEST B: DTC C1145 (RF), DTC C1155 (LF), DTC C1165 (RR), DTC C1175 (LR) - WHEEL SPEED SENSOR INPUT CIRCUIT FAILURE

NOTE: The Flex Probe Kit must be used for all test connections. Use of standard multi-meter probes may damage wiring terminals.
  1. B1 CHECK THE SUSPECT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR FOR AN OPEN
NOTE: To access the LH front wheel speed sensor electrical connector, remove the air cleaner assembly. To access the rear wheel speed sensors, remove the rear seat cushion.
