Gearshift Cables: Removal

- Remove the heater core and evaporator core housing. For additional information, refer to CLIMATE CONTROL article.
- Remove the battery tray. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES article.
- Disconnect the gearshift cables from the shift mechanism.
- Pull the spring clip out of the groove. Lift upward to rotate the clip 90 degrees.
- Disconnect the gearshift cables from the transaxle bracket.
- Remove the clamp nut and the gearshift cable clamp.
- Remove the restraints control module (RCM). For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
- Position the insulation blanket aside.
- Remove the 2 gearshift cable nuts and detach the cables from the floor.
- To install, tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).
- Disconnect the shift cables from the gearshift lever assembly.
- Pull the shift cables through the bulkhead into the interior.
NOTE:
Carefully disconnect the spring clip, do not damage the spring clip.

Carefully pry the retainer on the shift cable. Do not damage the shift cable retainers.

Carefully disconnect the cable from the shift lever assembly. Do not damage the shift cable retainers.
