Pinpoint Test N: The LH Turn Indicator Is Never/Always On

CAUTION: Use the correct probe adaptor(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adaptor(s) may damage the connector.
  1. N1 VERIFY THE TURN SIGNAL OPERATION 
    • Verify the exterior turn signal operation.
    • Do the exterior turn signals operate correctly? 
    1. YES  : Go to  N2.
    2. NO  : REFER to EXTERIOR LIGHTING article.
  2. N2 DETERMINE THE CONDITION 
    • Observe the LH turn signal indicator.
    • Is the LH turn signal indicator inoperative? 
    1. YES  : Go to  N3.
    2. NO  : Go to  N5.
  3. N3 CHECK CIRCUIT 3 (LG/WH) FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220
    • Key in ON position.
    • Place the multifunction switch in the LH TURN position.

    • Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster C220-17, circuit 3 (LG/WH), harness side and ground.
    • Does the voltage fluctuate between 0 and greater than 10 volts? 
    1. YES  : Go to  N7.
    2. NO  : Go to  N4.
  4. N4 CHECK CIRCUIT 3 (LG/WH) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280e

    • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220-17, circuit 3 (LG/WH), harness side and the SJB C2280e-25, circuit 3 (LG/WH), harness side; and between the instrument cluster C220-17, circuit 3 (LG/WH), harness side and ground.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the instrument cluster and the SJB, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the instrument cluster and ground?  
    1. YES  : Go to  N9.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. N5 CHECK CIRCUIT 3 (LG/WH) FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220
    • Key in ON position.

    • Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster C220-17, circuit 3 (LG/WH), harness side and ground.
    • Is any voltage present? 
    1. YES  : Go to  N6.
    2. NO  : Go to  N8.
  6. N6 CHECK CIRCUIT 3 (LG/WH) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280e
    • Key in ON position.

    • Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster C220-17, circuit 3 (LG/WH), harness side and ground.
    • Is any voltage present? 
    1. YES  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : Go to  N9.
  7. N7 CHECK CIRCUIT 57 (BK) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.

    • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220-25, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  N8.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  8. N8 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION 
    • Disconnect the instrument cluster connector.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • damaged pins
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect the instrument cluster connector and make sure it seats correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to Instrument Cluster . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
  9. N9 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • damaged pins
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-tests.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
