Pinpoint Test F: The Vehicle Security Module Does Not Respond To The Diagnostic Tool

CAUTION: Use the correct probe adaptor(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adaptor(s) may damage the connector.
  1. F1 CHECK CIRCUITS 116 (RD/BK) AND 1306 (PK/WH) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Vehicle Security Module C2113b
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the vehicle security module C2113b-1, circuit 116 (RD/BK), harness side and ground, and between the vehicle security module C2113b-3, circuit 1306 (PK/WH), harness side and ground

    • Are the voltages at each pin greater than 10 volts? 
    1. YES  : Go to  F2.
    2. NO  : VERIFY the central junction box (CJB) fuses 19 (10A) and 102 (30A) are OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the network test with the scan tool.
  2. F2 CHECK CIRCUIT 57 (BK) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Vehicle Security Module C2113a
    • Measure the resistance between C2113a-14, circuit 57 (BK) and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  F3.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the network test with the scan tool.
  3. F3 CHECK CIRCUIT 693 (OG) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE DATA LINK CONNECTOR (DLC) AND THE VEHICLE SECURITY MODULE 
    • Measure the resistance between the vehicle security module C2113c-5, circuit 693 (OG), harness side and the DLC C251-3, circuit 693 (OG), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  F4.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. REPEAT the network test with the scan tool.
  4. F4 CHECK FOR CORRECT VEHICLE SECURITY MODULE OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the vehicle security module connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • damaged pins
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the vehicle security module connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new vehicle security module. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article. REPEAT the network test with the scan tool.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the network test with the scan tool.
