Pinpoint Test B: The Customer Access System Does Not Operate Correctly

  1. B1 CHECK UPFITTER SYSTEM 
    • Operate all the upfitter accessories.
    • Are all the upfitter accessories inoperative? 
    • Yes  : GO to B2.
    • No  : GO to  B9.
  2. B2 CHECK UPFITTER RELAY 
    • Disconnect: Upfitter Relay C258.
    • Carry out the upfitter relay component test. Refer to SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS for component testing.
    • Does the upfitter relay test OK? 
    • Yes  : GO to B3.
    • No  : INSTALL a new upfitter relay.
  3. B3 CHECK UPFITTER RELAY FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between upfitter relay C258 pin 30, harness side and ground and between upfitter relay C258 pin 85, harness side and ground.

    • Are the voltages greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : GO to B4.
    • No  : VERIFY the central junction box (CJB) fuse 115 (20A). REPAIR or INSTALL a new CJB.
  4. B4 CHECK THE RELAY CONTROL GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between the upfitter relay C258 pin 86, harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to  B6.
    • No  : GO to B5.
  5. B5 CHECK CIRCUIT 570 (BK/WH) (GASOLINE ENGINE) OR CIRCUIT 57 (BK) (DIESEL ENGINES) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: CJB C270f.
    • Measure the resistance between the CJB C270f pin 5, circuit 570 (BK/WH), harness side and ground or between the CJB C270f pin 5, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : REPAIR or INSTALL a new CJB. TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. B6 CHECK THE UPFITTER RELAY BOX FOR SWITCH VOLTAGE 
    • Connect: Upfitter Relay.
    • Connect: CJB C270f.
    • Disconnect: Upfitter relay box fuse 701.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the upfitter relay box fuse 701 input side and ground.
    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : GO to  B8.
    • No  : GO to B7.
  7. B7 CHECK THE UPFITTER RELAY BOX FOR SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: CJB C270k.
    • Measure the resistance between the upfitter relay box fuse 701 input side and CJB C270k pin 4, circuit 1717 (VT/OG), harness side.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : REPAIR or INSTALL a new CJB. TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : REPAIR or INSTALL a new upfitter relay box as necessary. REFER to UPFITTER RELAY BOX  in this article. TEST the system for normal operation.
  8. B8 CHECK THE RESISTANCE BETWEEN THE UPFITTER SWITCH AND THE UPFITTER RELAY BOX 
    • Disconnect: Upfitter Switch C2300.
    • Measure the resistance between the upfitter relay box fuse 701 output side and the upfitter switch C2300 pin 8, circuit 296 (WH/VT), harness side.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new upfitter switch. REFER to UPFITTER SWITCH  in this article. TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : REPAIR or INSTALL a new upfitter relay box as necessary. REFER to UPFITTER RELAY BOX  in this article. TEST the system for normal operation.
  9. B9 CHECK THE UPFITTER SWITCH OPERATION 
    • Disconnect: Upfitter Relay C2301.
    • Disconnect: Upfitter Relay C2302.
    • Disconnect: Upfitter Relay C2303.
    • Disconnect: Upfitter Relay C2304.
    • Turn all the upfitter switches to the ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the upfitter relay control circuits, harness side and ground as follows:
      UPFITTER RELAY CONNECTOR & CIRCUIT REFERENCE

      C2301-86 153 (VT/YE)
      C2302-86 154 (VT7LG)
      C2303-1 155 (GY/RD)
      C2304-2 156 (GY/OG)
    • Are the voltages greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : GO to  B11.
    • No  : GO to B10.
  10. B10 CHECK THE RESISTANCE BETWEEN THE UPFITTER RELAYS AND THE UPFITTER SWITCH 
    • Disconnect: Upfitter Switch C2300.
    • Measure the resistance between the upfitter relay, harness side and the upfitter switch C2300, harness side as follows.

    • Are all the resistances less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new upfitter switch. REFER to UPFITTER SWITCH  in this article.
    • No  : REPAIR or INSTALL a new upfitter relay box as necessary. REFER to UPFITTER RELAY BOX  in this article. TEST the system for normal operation
  11. B11 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE UPFITTER RELAYS 
    • Measure the voltage between the upfitter relay, harness side and ground as follows:
      UPFITTER RELAY CONNECTOR & CIRCUIT REFERENCE

      C2301-30 1448 (OG/RD)
      C2302-30 1445 (RD/LG)
      C2303-3 1446 (RD/LB)
      C2304-3 1447 (RD)
    • Are all the voltages greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : GO to  B13.
    • No  : VERIFY CJB fuses 3 (10A), 5 (10A), 108 (30A) and 109 (30A). GO to B12.
  12. B12 CHECK THE UPFITTER RELAY VOLTAGE CIRCUITS 
    • Disconnect: CJB C270k.
    • Measure the resistance between the upfitter relay, harness side and the CJB, harness side as follows:
      UPFITTER RELAY & CJB CONNECTOR & CIRCUIT REFERENCE

      Upfitter Relay Connector-Pin Circuit CJB Connector-Pin
      C2301-30 1448 (OG/RD) C270k-8
      C2302-30 1445 (RD/LG) C270k-6
      C2303-3 1446 (RD/LB) C270k-7
      C2304-3 1447 (RD) C270k-2
    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : REPAIR or INSTALL a new CJB.
    • No  : REPAIR or INSTALL a new upfitter relay box as necessary. REFER to UPFITTER RELAY BOX  in this article. TEST the system for normal operation.
  13. B13 CHECK THE UPFITTER RELAYS FOR CORRECT OPERATION 
    • Carry out the upfitter relay component test. Refer to SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS for component testing.
    • Do all the relays pass the component test? 
    • Yes  : GO to B14.
    • No  : INSTALL a new upfitter relay for the suspect relay. TEST the system for normal operation.
  14. B14 CHECK THE UPFITTER RELAY GROUND CIRCUITS 
    • Measure the resistance between the upfitter relay box, harness side and ground as follows:

      C2301-85 57 (BK)
      C2302-85 57 (BK)
      C2303-2 57 (BK)
      C2304-1 57 (BK)
    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to B15.
    • No  : REPAIR or INSTALL a new upfitter relay box as necessary. REFER to UPFITTER RELAY BOX  in this article. TEST the system for normal operation.
  15. B15 CHECK THE UPFITTER RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUITS 
    • Connect: CJB C270f.
    • Connect: Upfitter Relay C2301.
    • Connect: Upfitter Relay C2302.
    • Connect: Upfitter Relay C2303.
    • Connect: Upfitter Relay C2304.
    • Measure the voltage between the upfitter relay box output circuits, at the blunt cut ends and ground as follows:
      UPFITTER RELAY CONNECTOR & CIRCUIT REFERENCE

      Circuit Wire Color
      1936 OG/LG
      1933 OG
      1934 OG/YE
      1935 OG/LB
    • Are the voltages greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : The system is operating correctly at this time. DIAGNOSE the add-on accessory as necessary.
    • No  : REPAIR or INSTALL a new upfitter relay box as necessary. REFER to UPFITTER RELAY BOX  in this article. TEST the system for normal operation.
