Pinpoint Test J: No Universal Asynchronous Receiver-Transmitter (UART) Based Protocol (UBP) Communications Network Communication

  1. J1 CHECK THE DATA LINK CONNECTOR (DLC) C251 FOR DAMAGE 
    • Inspect the DLC C251 for damage.
    • Is the DLC C251 OK? 
    • Yes  : If equipped with electronic automatic temperature control (EATC), GO to J2. If not equipped with EATC, GO to  J5.
    • No  : REPAIR the DLC C251 as necessary. CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
  2. J2 CHECK THE EATC MODULE C228B FOR DAMAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: EATC Module C228b.
    • Inspect the EATC module C228b for damage.
    • Is the EATC module C228b OK? 
    • Yes  : GO to J3.
    • No  : REPAIR the EATC module C228b as necessary. CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
  3. J3 CHECK CIRCUIT CHECK CIRCUIT 693 (OG) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE DLC C251 AND THE EATC MODULE C228B 
    • Measure the resistance between the EATC module C228b pin 3, circuit 693 (OG), harness side and the DLC C251 pin 3, circuit 693 (OG), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to J4.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
  4. J4 CHECK THE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK WITH THE EATC MODULE C228B DISCONNECTED 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Data Link Diagnostics Test.
    • Is system passed obtained? 
    • Yes  : GO to  J13.
    • No  : CONNECT the EATC module C228b. GO to J5.
  5. J5 CHECK THE VEHICLE SECURITY MODULE C2113C FOR DAMAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Vehicle Security Module C2113c.
    • Inspect the vehicle security module C2113c for damage.
    • Is the vehicle security module C2113c OK? 
    • Yes  : GO to J6.
    • No  : REPAIR the vehicle security module C2113c as necessary. CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
  6. J6 CHECK CIRCUIT 693 (OG) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE DLC C251 AND THE VEHICLE SECURITY MODULE C2113C 
    • Measure the resistance between the vehicle security module C2113c pin 5, circuit 693 (OG), harness side and the DLC C251 pin 3, circuit 693 (OG), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to J7.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
  7. J7 CHECK THE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK WITH THE VEHICLE SECURITY MODULE C2113C DISCONNECTED 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Data Link Diagnostics Test.
    • Is system passed obtained? 
    • Yes  : GO to  J15.
    • No  : CONNECT the vehicle security module C2113c. GO to J8
  8. J8 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER C220B FOR DAMAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220b.
    • Inspect the instrument cluster C220b for damage.
    • Is the instrument cluster C220b OK? 
    • Yes  : GO to J9.
    • No  : REPAIR the instrument cluster C220b as necessary. CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
  9. J9 CHECK CIRCUIT 693 (OG) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE DATA LINK CONNECTOR (DLC) C251 AND THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER C220B 
    • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220b pin 11, circuit 693 (OG), harness side and the DLC C251 pin 3, circuit 693 (OG), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to J10.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
  10. J10 CHECK THE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK WITH THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER C220B DISCONNECTED 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Data Link Diagnostics Test.
    • Is system passed obtained? 
    • Yes  : GO to  J14.
    • No  : GO to J11
  11. J11 CHECK THE UBP COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK CIRCUIT 693 (OG) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: EATC Module C228b.
    • Disconnect: Vehicle Security Module C2113c.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the DLC C251 pin 3, circuit 693 (OG), harness side and ground.

    • Is any voltage present? 
    • Yes  : REPAIR the circuit. CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
    • No  : GO to J12.
  12. J12 CHECK THE UBP COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK CIRCUIT 693 (OG) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between the DLC C251 pin 3, circuit 693 (OG), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    • Yes  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
  13. J13 CHECK FOR CORRECT EATC MODULE OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the EATC module connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the EATC module connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new EATC module. REFER to CONTROL COMPONENTS . CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
    • No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). REPEAT the self-test.
  14. J14 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
    • No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  15. J15 CHECK FOR CORRECT VEHICLE SECURITY MODULE OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the vehicle security module connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the vehicle security module connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a vehicle security module. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES . CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
    • No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
