Pinpoint Test I: No International Standards Organization (ISO) 9141 Communications Network Communication

  1. I1 CHECK THE DATA LINK CONNECTOR (DLC) C251 FOR DAMAGE 
    • Inspect the DLC C251 for damage.
    • Is the DLC C251 OK? 
    • Yes  : If equipped with a 4-wheel drive (4WD) control module, GO to I2. If not equipped with a 4WD control module and equipped with parking aid, GO to  I5. If not equipped with a 4WD control module or with parking aid, GO to  I8.
    • No  : REPAIR the DLC C251 as necessary. CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
  2. I2 CHECK THE 4WD CONTROL MODULE C281B FOR DAMAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: 4WD Control Module C281b.
    • Inspect the 4WD control module C281b for damage.
    • Is the 4WD control module C281b OK? 
    • Yes  : GO to I3.
    • No  : REPAIR the 4WD control module C281b as necessary. CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
  3. I3 CHECK CIRCUIT CHECK CIRCUIT 70 (LB/WH) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE DLC C251 AND THE 4WD CONTROL MODULE C281B 
    • Measure the resistance between the 4WD control module C281b pin 10, circuit 70 (LB/WH), harness side and the DLC C251 pin 7, circuit 70 (LB/WH), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to I4.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
  4. I4 CHECK THE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK WITH THE 4WD CONTROL MODULE C281B DISCONNECTED 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Data Link Diagnostics Test.
    • Is system passed obtained? 
    • Yes  : GO to  I3.
    • No  : If equipped with parking aid, CONNECT the 4WD control module C281b and GO to I5. If not equipped with parking aid, CONNECT the 4WD control module C281b and GO to  I8.
  5. I5 CHECK THE PARKING AID MODULE C4014 FOR DAMAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Parking Aid Module C4014.
    • Inspect the parking aid module C4014 for damage.
    • Is the parking aid module C4014 OK? 
    • Yes  : GO to I6.
    • No  : REPAIR the parking aid module C4014 as necessary. CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
  6. I6 CHECK CIRCUIT 70 (LB/WH) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE DLC C251 AND THE PARKING AID MODULE C4014 
    • Measure the resistance between the parking aid module C4014 pin 5, circuit 70 (LB/WH), harness side and the DLC C251 pin 7, circuit 70 (LB/WH), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to I7.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
  7. I7 CHECK THE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK WITH THE PARKING AID MODULE C4014 DISCONNECTED 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Data Link Diagnostics Test.
    • Is system passed obtained? 
    • Yes  : GO to  I14.
    • No  : CONNECT the parking aid module C4014. GO to I8.
  8. I8 CHECK THE RCM C2041 FOR DAMAGE 
    • Depower the supplemental restraint system (SRS). +Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
    • Disconnect: RCM C2041.
    • Inspect the RCM C2041 for damage.
    • Is the RCM C2041 OK? 
    • Yes  : GO to I9.
    • No  : REPAIR the RCM C2041 as necessary. CONNECT the RCM C2041. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM . CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
  9. I9 CHECK CIRCUIT 70 (LB/WH) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE DATA LINK CONNECTOR (DLC) C251 AND THE RCM C2041 
    • Measure the resistance between the RCM C2041 pin 5, circuit 70 (LB/WH), harness side and the DLC C251 pin 7, circuit 70 (LB/WH), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to I10.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CONNECT the RCM C2041. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM . CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
  10. I10 CHECK THE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK WITH THE RCM C2041 DISCONNECTED 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Data Link Diagnostics Test.
    • Is system passed obtained? 
    • Yes  : GO to  I15.
    • No  : GO to I11.
  11. I11 CHECK THE ISO 9141 COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK CIRCUIT 70 (LB/WH) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: 4WD Control Module C281b (if equipped).
    • Disconnect: Parking Aid Module C4014 (if equipped).
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the DLC C251 pin 7, circuit 70 (LB/WH), harness side and ground.

    • Is any voltage present? 
    • Yes  : REPAIR the circuit. CONNECT the RCM C2041. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM . CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
    • No  : GO to I12.
  12. I12 CHECK THE ISO 9141 COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK CIRCUIT 70 (LB/WH) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between the DLC C251 pin 7, circuit 70 (LB/WH), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    • Yes  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CONNECT the RCM C2041. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM . CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
  13. I13 CHECK FOR CORRECT 4WD CONTROL MODULE OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the 4WD control module connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the 4WD control module connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new 4WD control module. REFER to FOUR- WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEMS . CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
    • No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). REPEAT the self-test.
  14. I14 CHECK FOR CORRECT PARKING AID MODULE OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the parking aid module connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the parking aid module connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new parking aid module. REFER to PARKING AID . CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
    • No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  15. I15 CHECK FOR CORRECT RCM OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the RCM connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the RCM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a RCM. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM . CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
    • No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
