Pinpoint Test A: The Brake Shift Interlock System Does Not Release/Lock Correctly

  1. A1 TEST THE BRAKE LIGHTS 
    • Apply the brake pedal and view the brake lights.
    • Do the brake lights illuminate? 
    1. YES  : Go to  A7.
    2. NO  : Go to  A2.
  2. A2 TEST FUSE F2.34 (10A) 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Check fuse: Fuse F2.34 (10A)
    • Is the resistance 5 ohms or less? 
    1. YES  : Go to  A4.
    2. NO  : Go to  A3.
  3. A3 TEST CIRCUIT 22 (LB/BK) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Brake Pedal Position (BPP) Switch C278
    • Inspect for damaged or pushed-out pins, corrosion or loose wires. Repair as necessary.
    • Measure the resistance between BPP switch C278-3, circuit 22 (LB/BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance 10,000 ohms or less? 
    1. YES  : SERVICE circuit 22 (LB/BK) for short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : Go to  A4.
  4. A4 TEST CIRCUIT 22 (LB/BK) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure the resistance between the output side of fuse F2.34 (10A) and BPP switch C278-3, circuit 22 (LB/BK), harness side.

    • Is the resistance 5 ohms or less? 
    1. YES  : Go to  A5.
    2. NO  : SERVICE circuit 22 (LB/BK) for open. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. A5 TEST THE BPP SWITCH 
    • Measure the resistance between BPP switch pin 2 and pin 3.

    • Is the resistance of the switch greater than 10,000 ohms while OFF and 5 ohms or less while ON? 
    1. YES  : Go to  A6.
    2. NO  : INSTALL a new BPP switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. A6 TEST CIRCUIT 810 (RD/LG) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Brake Shift Interlock Actuator (BSIA) C2008
    • Inspect for damaged or pushed-out pins, corrosion or loose wires. Repair as necessary.
    • Measure the resistance between BSIA C2008-3, circuit 810 (RD/LG), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance 10,000 ohms or less? 
    1. YES  : SERVICE circuit 810 (RD/LG) for short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : Go to  A7.
  7. A7 TEST CIRCUIT 810 (RD/LG) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure the resistance between BSIA C2008-3, circuit 810 (RD/LG), harness side and BPP switch C278-2, circuit 810 (RD/LG), harness side.

    • Is the resistance 5 ohms or less? 
    1. YES  : Go to  A8.
    2. NO  : SERVICE circuit 810 (RD/LG) for open. TEST the system for normal operation.
  8. A8 TEST FOR B+ ON CIRCUIT 295 (LB/PK) 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between BSIA C2008-1, circuit 295 (LB/PK), harness side and ground.

    • Is B+ present? 
    1. YES  : Go to  A12.
    2. NO  : Go to  A9.
  9. A9 TEST FUSE F2.27 (15A) 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Check fuse: Fuse F2.27 (15A)
    • Is the resistance of fuse 5 ohms or less? 
    1. YES  : Go to  A11.
    2. NO  : Go to  A10.
  10. A10 TEST CIRCUIT 295 (LB/PK) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Measure the resistance between BSIA C2008-1, circuit 295 (LB/PK), harness side and ground

    • Is the resistance 10,000 ohms or less? 
    1. YES  : SERVICE circuit 295 (LB/PK) for short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : Go to  A11.
  11. A11 TEST CIRCUIT 295 (LB/PK) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure the resistance between the output side of the central junction box fuse F2.27 (15A) and BSIA C2008-1, circuit 295 (LB/PK), harness side.

    • Is the resistance 5 ohms or less? 
    1. YES  : Go to  A12.
    2. NO  : SERVICE circuit 295 (LB/PK) for open. TEST the system for normal operation.
  12. A12 TEST CIRCUIT 57 (BK) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure the resistance between BSIA C2008-2, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance 5 ohms or less? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new BSIA. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : SERVICE circuit 57 (BK) for open. TEST the system for normal operation.
