Pinpoint Test A: The Shift Control Is Out Of Correct Gear Relationship

  1. A1 CHECK SHIFT CONTROL LINKAGE 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Apply the brake pedal.
    • Gain access to the shift control linkage.
    • Actuate the transmission selector lever in all ranges.
    • Observe all linkages during operation.
    • Is the linkage damaged? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new shift control linkage. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : Go to  A2.
  2. A2 CHECK TRANSMISSION SELECTOR LEVER CABLE 
    • Check the transmission selector lever cable and bracket installation.
    • Is the transmission selector lever cable correctly installed and adjusted? 
    1. YES  : VERIFY the transmission selector lever cable adjustment. REFER to Selector Lever Cable Adjustment  in this article. ADJUST the transmission selector lever cable if necessary. Go to  A3 .
    2. NO  : REPAIR as necessary. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. A3 CHECK LINKAGE/CABLE FOR CORRECT GEAR RELATIONSHIP 
    • Apply the brake pedal.
    • Actuate the transmission selector lever in all ranges.
    • Does the indicator match the gear selection? 
    1. YES  : System OK. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : REFER to Selector Lever Cable Adjustment  in this article. TEST the system for normal operation.
