Pinpoint Test W: The Reversing Lamps Are On Continuously

  1. W1 CHECK THE TRANSAXLE TYPE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Check the transaxle type on the vehicle.
    • Is the vehicle equipped with a manual transaxle? 

    Yes  : GO to W2.

    No  : GO to  W3.

  2. W2 CHECK THE REVERSING LAMP SWITCH 
    • Disconnect: Reversing Lamp Switch C169.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Do the reversing lamps continue to illuminate? 

    Yes  : For vehicles equipped with an auto-dimming mirror, GO to  W4.

    For vehicles not equipped with an auto-dimming mirror, GO to  W6.

    No  : INSTALL a new reversing lamp switch. REFER to REVERSING LAMP SWITCH . TEST the system for normal operation.

  3. W3 MONITOR THE TRANSMISSION GEAR STATUS PID 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: TCM Gear Status PID.
    • Monitor the TCM gear status PID while moving the gear selector lever through all positions.
    • Does the PID agree with the gear selected? 

    Yes  : For vehicles equipped with an auto-dimming mirror, GO to W4.

    For vehicles not equipped with an auto-dimming mirror, GO to  W5.

    No  : REFER to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - 6 SPEED or AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION - FNR5 to continue diagnosis of the transaxle.

  4. W4 CHECK THE REAR VIEW MIRROR 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Rear View Mirror C911.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Do the reversing lamps continue to illuminate? 

    Yes  : For vehicles equipped with a manual transaxle, GO to  W6.

    For vehicles equipped with an automatic transaxle, GO to W5.

    No  : INSTALL a new rear view mirror. REFER to REAR VIEW MIRRORS . TEST the system for normal operation.

  5. W5 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Do the reversing lamps continue to illuminate? 

    Yes  : GO to W6.

    No  : GO to  W8.

  6. W6 CHECK CIRCUIT CPB12 (GN/WH) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280e.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Do the reversing lamps continue to illuminate? 

    Yes  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

    No  : GO to W7.

  7. W7 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
    • Check for:
      • Corrosion
      • Pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULES . TEST the system for normal operation.

    No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.

  8. W8 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION 
    • Disconnect the instrument cluster connector.
    • Check for:
      • Corrosion
      • Pushed-out pins
    • Connect the instrument cluster connector and make sure it seats correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.

    No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
