Pinpoint Test D: One Or More Module-Controlled Illumination Source(S) Is Inoperative

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Mercury Montego, 2006 Ford Freestyle, and 2006 Ford Five Hundred. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Use the correct probe adaptor(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adaptor(s) may damage the connector.
  1. D1 CHECK FOR RECORDED SJB DTCs
    • Check the recorded results from the SJB continuous and on-demand self-tests.
    • Are any DTCs recorded?

Yes:  For DTC B2026, GO to  D4.

For DTC B2027, GO to  D5.

For all others, GO to the SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX  table.

    No:  GO to  D2.

  2. D2 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE SINGLE ILLUMINATION SOURCE
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Inoperative Illumination Source.
    • Place the headlamp switch to the parking lamps ON position.
    • Rotate the instrument panel dimmer switch to the full illumination position.
    • Measure the voltage between the inoperative illumination source, harness side and ground as follows:
      INOPERATIVE ILLUMINATION SOURCE VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION

Suspect Component Connector - Pin Circuit
      Adjustable Pedals Switch C2089-2 1417 (LG/RD)
Decklid Release Switch C2269-2 (vehicles built through 12/2005) C2269-5 (vehicles built after 12/2005) 1417 (LG/RD)
      Center Stack C2114-7 1417 (LG/RD)
      Manual Climate Control Assembly C294a-2 1417 (LG/RD)
      Analog Clock C2016-2 1417 (LG/RD)
      Shifter Assembly C3245-2 1418 (LB/WH)
      Headlamp Switch C205-2 1418 (LB/WH)
    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

    Yes:  GO to  D3.

No:  REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.

  3. D3 CHECK CIRCUIT 1205 (BK) FOR AN OPEN
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between the inoperative illumination source, harness side and ground as follows:
      INOPERATIVE ILLUMINATION SOURCE RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

Suspect Component Connector - Pin Circuit
Adjustable Pedals Switch C2089-1 1205 (BK)
Decklid Release Switch C2269-1 (vehicles built through 12/2005) C2269-4 (vehicles built after 12/2005) 1205 (BK)
      Center Stack C2114-4 1205 (BK)
Manual Climate Control Assembly C294b-1 1205 (BK)
      Shifter Assembly C3245-4 1205 (BK)
      Headlamp Switch C205-1 1205 (BK)
      Analog Clock C2016-3 1205 (BK)
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

Yes:  INSTALL a new component in question. TEST the system for normal operation.

No:  REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

  4. D4 CHECK CIRCUIT 1418 (LB/WH) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Headlamp Switch C205.
    • Disconnect: Shifter Assembly C3245.
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280d.
    • Measure the resistance between the SJB C2280d-20, circuit 1418 (LB/WH), harness side and ground.
