Pinpoint Test I: Spongy Brake Pedal With No Warning Indicator

  1. I1 CHECK THE VEHICLE COMPONENT MOUNTING 
    • Inspect the brake pedal and brake booster/brake master cylinder for correct attachment.
    • Bleed the brake system. Refer to BRAKE SYSTEM BLEEDING .
    • Is the brake pedal still spongy? 

    Yes:  GO to  I2.

    No:  The brake system is operating correctly. The concern may have been caused by air in the hydraulic system.

  2. I2 BLEED THE BRAKE SYSTEM 
    • Bleed the brake system using the diagnostic tool. Refer to BRAKE SYSTEM BLEEDING .
    • Is the brake pedal spongy? 

    Yes:  REFER to BRAKE SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .

    No:  The brake system is operating correctly. The concern may have been caused by air in the hydraulic control unit (HCU).
