Normal Operation

The instrument cluster uses 3 strategies to operate the red brake warning indicator; parking brake status, brake fluid level, and the base brake system integrity. When the parking brake is applied, circuit 162 (LG/RD) to the instrument cluster is grounded by the parking brake switch through circuit 676 (PK/OG). The instrument cluster receives the ground signal and illuminates the brake warning indicator. When the brake fluid level is low or when the brake fluid level switch is disconnected, the instrument cluster receives data through circuit 512 (TN/LG) and circuit 531 (DG/YE) and illuminates the brake warning indicator. When a base brake system concern is detected, the anti-lock brake system (ABS) module sends a ground signal to the instrument cluster and the instrument cluster responds by illuminating the brake system warning indicator.
