Pinpoint Test W: The OVERTEMP Warning Indicator Is Inoperative

- W1 CHECK THE RECORDED DTCs FROM BOTH CONTINUOUS AND ON-DEMAND POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) SELF-TESTS
- Check the PCM DTCs from the continuous and on-demand self-tests.
- Are any PCM DTCs recorded?
Yes : REFER to the INTRODUCTION -- HYBRID ESCAPE & HYBRID MARINER article to continue diagnosis of the DTCs.
No : GO to W2.
- W2 CARRY OUT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PROVE-OUT
- Carry out the instrument cluster self-diagnostic test for the bulb check.
- Observe the overtemp warning indicator.
- Does the overtemp warning indicator illuminate?
Yes : GO to W4.
No : GO to W3.
- W3 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
- Disconnect the instrument cluster connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the instrument cluster connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
Yes : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER in this article. TEST the system for normal operation.
No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
- W4 CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM OPERATION
- Disconnect all the PCM connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the PCM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
Yes : INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS - HYBRID . TEST the system for normal operation.
No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
