Normal Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Mercury Mariner and 2006 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The charging system warning indicator is controlled by the instrument cluster based on data received from the powertrain control module (PCM). The instrument cluster sets DTC B1317 if the battery voltage exceeds 16.5 volts DC ± 0.5 volt DC, when the ignition switch is in the START or RUN position. The instrument cluster sets DTC B1318 if battery voltage drops to less than 9 volts DC ± 0.5 volt DC, when the ignition switch is in the START or RUN position.
