Normal Operation

The ABS module sends out a 5 volt reference voltage to the brake fluid level switch along circuit LCA16 (GN). The reference voltage passes through the switch and back to the ABS module along circuit RCA16 (BU/BN) where it is grounded through the ABS module. When the fluid reaches a predetermined level, the resistance of the switch changes and the module detects a low fluid level condition. The ABS module then sends a message to the instrument cluster to illuminate the red brake warning indicator.

If the ABS module detects an open on circuit LCA16 (GN) or circuit RCA16 (BU/BN), it will set DTC C1187. |

If the ABS module detects a short to battery voltage on circuit LCA16 (GN), DTC C1188 will be set. |

If the ABS module detects a short to ground on circuit LCA16 (GN), it will set DTC C1189. |

When the brake fluid is below a predetermined level, the ABS module will set DTC C1327. If there is an internal failure of the brake fluid level switch that causes the ABS module to detect low brake fluid, this DTC will also be set. |

If the signal from the brake fluid level switch is above or below a predetermined range due to a short to voltage or ground, an open circuit or an internal failure in the switch, DTC C1523 will be set. |
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Brake fluid level switch
- ABS module
