Normal Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis and 2006 Ford Crown Victoria. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The powertrain control module (PCM) monitors the fuel tank evaporative emission system for significant leaks that occur following refueling of the vehicle. The PCM sends a message to the instrument cluster over the controller area network (CAN) to illuminate the check fuel cap warning indicator.
