The IAT sensor is a thermistor-type sensor with a variable resistance that changes when exposed to different temperatures. When interfaced with the powertrain control module (PCM), it produces a 0-5 volt analog signal that measures temperature.
The 6.0L diesel uses 2 IAT sensors. For vehicles with a mass air flow (MAF) sensor, the IAT sensor is integrated into the MAF sensor. For vehicles without a MAF sensor, the IAT sensor is a stand alone sensor.
The IAT2 sensor or manifold air temperature (MAT) sensor is located in the intake manifold. The IAT2 sensor provides a manifold air temperature signal to the PCM.
