Pinpoint Test J: One Or More Stoplamps Are Inoperative: Testing

- J1 CHECK SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) DTCs
- Key in ON position.
- Check the recorded results from the SJB self-test.
- Were any DTCs recorded?
- J2 CHECK CIRCUIT 1363 (WH/RD) OR CIRCUIT 1365 (GY/LB) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: SJB C2280e.
- Disconnect: Inoperative Rear Lamp.
- Measure the resistance between the LH rear lamp assembly C414-2, circuit 1363 (WH/RD), harness side and ground; or between the RH rear lamp assembly C417-2, circuit 1365 (GY/LB), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes : GO to J3.
- No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- J3 CHECK THE REAR LAMP JUMPER HARNESS FOR A SHORT
- Check the rear lamp jumper harness for exposed wires and a short.
- Is the rear lamp jumper harness OK?
- Yes : GO to J13.
- No : REPAIR or INSTALL a new rear lamp jumper harness. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- J4 CHECK CIRCUIT 1205 (BK) FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Inoperative Rear Lamp.
- Measure the resistance between the LH rear lamp assembly C414-6, circuit 1205 (BK), harness side and ground; or between the RH rear lamp assembly C417-6, circuit 1205 (BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to J5.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- J5 CHECK CIRCUIT 1363 (WH/RD) OR CIRCUIT 1365 (GY/LB) FOR VOLTAGE
- While applying the brake pedal, measure the voltage between the LH rear lamp assembly C414-2, circuit 1363 (WH/RD), harness side and ground; or between the RH rear lamp assembly C417-2, circuit 1365 (GY/LB), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : REPAIR or INSTALL a new rear lamp jumper harness. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- No : GO to J6.
- J6 CHECK CIRCUIT 1363 (WH/RD) OR CIRCUIT 1365 (GY/LB) FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect: SJB C2280e.
- Measure the resistance between the LH rear lamp assembly C414-2, circuit 1363 (WH/RD), harness side and the SJB C2280e-5, circuit 1363 (WH/RD), harness side; or between the RH rear lamp assembly C417-2, circuit 1365 (GY/LB), harness side and the SJB C2280e-10, circuit 1365 (GY/LB), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to J13.
- No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- J7 CHECK CIRCUIT 1374 (TN/LB) FOR VOLTAGE
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: High Mounted Stoplamp.
- While applying the brake pedal, measure the voltage between the high mounted stoplamp, harness side and ground as follows:CONNECTOR-PIN REFERENCE
Vehicle Connector-Pin Circuit Freestyle C904-1 1374 (LG) Five Hundred C904-1 1374 (TN/LB) Montego C9030-1 1374 (TN/LB) - Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : GO to J8.
- No
: For Freestyle or Five Hundred, GO to J9.
For Montego, REPAIR circuit 1374 (TN/LB). TEST the system for normal operation.
- J8 CHECK CIRCUIT 1205 (BK) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between the high mounted stoplamp, harness side and ground as follows:CONNECTOR-PIN REFERENCE
Vehicle Connector-Pin Circuit Freestyle C904-2 1205 (BK) Five Hundred C904-2 1205 (BK) Montego C9030-3 1205 (BK) - Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : INSTALL a new high mounted stoplamp. REFER to HIGH MOUNTED STOPLAMP - FIVE HUNDRED, MONTEGO or HIGH MOUNTED STOPLAMP - FREESTYLE . TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- Measure the resistance between the high mounted stoplamp, harness side and ground as follows:
- J9 CHECK CIRCUIT 1374 (TN/LB) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect: SJB C2280e.
- Measure the resistance between the SJB C2280e-9, circuit 1374 (TN/LB), harness side and the high mounted stoplamp C904-1, circuit 1374 (TN/LB) (GN for Freestyle), harness side; and between the SJB C2280e-9, circuit 1374 (TN/LB), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the SJB and the high mounted stoplamp, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the SJB and ground?
- Yes : GO to J13.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- J10 CHECK CIRCUIT 1205 (BK) FOR AN OPEN (MONTEGO)
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Inoperative Rear Lamp.
- Measure the resistance between the LH rear lamp assembly C414-6, circuit 1205 (BK), harness side and ground; or between the RH rear lamp assembly C417-6, circuit 1205 (BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to J11.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- J11 CHECK CIRCUIT 1374 (TN/LB) FOR AN OPEN (MONTEGO)
- While applying the brake pedal, measure the voltage between the LH rear lamp assembly C414-3, circuit 1374 (TN/LB), harness side and ground; or between the RH rear lamp assembly C417-3, circuit 1374 (TN/LB), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : GO to J12.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- J12 CHECK THE REAR LAMP JUMPER HARNESS FOR AN OPEN (MONTEGO)
- Check the rear lamp jumper harness for an open.
- Is the rear lamp jumper harness OK?
- Yes : INSTALL a new rear lamp assembly. REFER to REAR LAMP ASSEMBLY - FIVE HUNDRED, MONTEGO . TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : REPAIR or INSTALL a new rear lamp jumper harness. TEST the system for normal operation.
- J13 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION
- Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES . TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
