    • Measure the resistance between HVAC module C228b-7, circuit 1070 (BN/LB), harness side and ground.
    • Is the resistance reading between 4,500 and 5,000 ohms?
    1. YES  : Go to  G2.
    2. NO  : If the resistance is less than 4,500 ohms, go to  G3.

If the resistance is greater than 5,000 ohms, go to  G4.

  2. G2 CHECK THE STEERING WHEEL AUXILIARY CONTROL SWITCH OUTPUT
      Fig 2: Measuring Resistance
      GF0047633Courtesy of FORD MOTOR CO.
    • Measure the resistance between HVAC module C228b-7, circuit 1070 (BN/LB), harness side and ground.
    • Press each steering wheel auxiliary control switch and compare the resistance reading to the chart below.
      Switch Resistance
      TEMP UP 379-387 ohms
      TEMP DOWN 1,695-1,730 ohms
      NO FUNCTION 4,468-4,558 ohms
    • Are the resistance readings within the range?
    1. YES  : Go to  G6.
    2. NO  : INSTALL a new steering wheel auxiliary control switch. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. G3 CHECK CIRCUIT 1070 (BN/LB) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    • Disconnect: Steering Wheel Control Switch
    • Fig 3: Measuring Resistance
      GF0047633Courtesy of FORD MOTOR CO.
    • Measure the resistance between HVAC module C228b-7, circuit 1070 (BN/LB), harness side and ground.
    • Is the resistance reading less than 10,000 ohms?
    1. YES  : REPAIR circuit 1070 (BN/LB) for a short to ground. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : INSTALL a new steering wheel auxiliary control switch. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. G4 CHECK CIRCUIT 1070 (BN/LB) FOR AN OPEN
    • Disconnect: Steering Wheel Auxiliary Control Switch
    • Fig 4: Measuring Resistance

    • Measure the resistance between HVAC module C228b-7, circuit 1070 (BN/LB), harness side and steering wheel auxiliary control switch C2208-6, circuit 1070 (BN/LB), harness side.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
    1. YES  : Go to  G5.
    2. NO  : REPAIR circuit 1070 (BN/LB) for an open. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. G5 CHECK CIRCUIT 57 (BK) FOR AN OPEN
      Fig 5: Measuring Resistance

    • Measure the resistance between steering wheel auxiliary control switch C2208-3, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new steering wheel auxiliary control switch. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : REPAIR circuit 57 (BK) for an open. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. G6 CHECK HVAC MODULE CONNECTION
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new HVAC module. REFER to CLIMATE CONTROL article. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
