Normal Operation

The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) uses vehicle speed data sent from the PCM over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HSCAN) communication bus and the parking brake switch status sent from the Smart Junction Box (SJB) over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) to determine when to turn on the parking brake warning chime.

The SJB  monitors and uses the ignition ON position, the parking brake on status, and vehicle speed that is greater than 5 km/h (3 mph). The parking brake warning chime stops sounding and resets if the parking brake is released, the ignition is not in the ON position, if the vehicle speed is below 5 km/h (3 mph), or after 90 seconds from the time the chime is activated.

NOTE: Make sure that the brake warning chime operation is verified with the vehicle moving at least 5 km/h (3 mph) with the parking brake slightly applied (just enough to turn the brake warning indicator on).
