Normal Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 Mercury Milan, 2010 Lincoln MKZ, and 2010 Ford Fusion. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The Occupant Classification System Module (OCSM) monitors each Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) weight sensor bolt for correct calibration/weight and identification. When the OCSM  detects a fault from any of the 4 sensors or if an OCS  system component has been installed new, it will store a DTC in memory and send a message to the Restraints Control Module (RCM).

The RCM  will store DTC B00A0:09 in memory and send a message to the Instrument Cluster (IC) module to illuminate the air bag warning indicator.

DTC DESCRIPTION CHART

DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
  • B00A0:54 - Occupant Classification System: Missing Calibration
When the OCSM  senses a calibration from one or more weight sensor bolt(s) that is not stored in memory, a fault will be indicated. A new OCS  component installed in the vehicle can set this DTC.
  • B00A0:76 - Occupant Classification System: Wrong Mounting Position
When the OCSM  senses signals from weight sensor bolt(s) that are not the correct values for their position on the seat track, a fault will be indicated. Sensors that are not connected correctly can set this DTC.
  • B00C0:49 - Passenger Seat Occupant Classification Sensor "A": Internal Electronic Failure
The OCSM  determines sensor "A" is clamped high or clamped low. When the OCSM  measures sensor output to be between 4.750 volts and 4.850 volts (sensor is clamped high) or when measured sensor output voltage is between 0.250 to 0.625 volt (sensor is clamped low), a fault will be indicated. A faulted sensor, passenger seat not installed correctly or bent or binding passenger seat track can set this DTC.
  • B00C1:49 - Passenger Seat Occupant Classification Sensor "B": Internal Electronic Failure
The OCSM  determines sensor "B" is clamped high or clamped low.
  • B00C2:49 - Passenger Seat Occupant Classification Sensor "C": Internal Electronic Failure
The OCSM  determines sensor "C" is clamped high or clamped low.
  • B00C3:49 - Passenger Seat Occupant Classification Sensor "D": Internal Electronic Failure
The OCSM  determines sensor "D" is clamped high or clamped low.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
