Pinpoint Test C: The Interior Lamps Stay On Continuously

  1. C1 CHECK THE DOOR AJAR PIDs 
    • Connect the diagnostic tool.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Close all the doors.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Door Ajar PIDs.
    • Monitor the door ajar PIDs while opening and closing the doors.
    • Do the door ajar PIDs match the door positions? 
    • Yes  : GO to C2.
    • No  : If the vehicle is not equipped with RKE, GO to  C13.

      If the vehicle is equipped with RKE, GO to  C13

  2. C2 CHECK THE HEADLAMP SWITCH 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Headlamp Switch C205b.
    • Observe the interior lamps.
    • Are the interior lamps still illuminated? 
    • Yes  : GO to C3.
    • No  : INSTALL a new headlamp switch. REFER to EXTERIOR LIGHTING . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  3. C3 CHECK THE VEHICLE SECURITY MODULE 
    • Disconnect: Vehicle Security Module C2113c.
    • Observe the interior lamps.
    • Are the interior lamps still illuminated? 
    • Yes  : GO to C4.
    • No  : GO to  C23.
  4. C4 CHECK CIRCUIT 53 (BK/LB) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220b.
    • Are the interior lamps still illuminated? 
    • Yes  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    • No  : GO to C5.
  5. C5 CHECK CIRCUIT 402 (OG/LG) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220b-25, circuit 402 (OG/LG), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to  C22.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  6. C6 CHECK THE DOOR AJAR PID STATUS WITH THE DIAGNOSTIC TOOL (WITHOUT RKE) 
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Instrument Cluster Door Ajar PIDs.
    • Monitor the instrument cluster door ajar PIDs while opening and closing the doors.
    • Is the suspect door ajar switch the left front door? 
    • Yes  : LF door, GO to C7.
    • No  : RF door, GO to  C9.

      RR door (Club Cab), GO to  C10.

      LR door (Club Cab), GO to  C11.

  7. C7 CHECK THE LEFT FRONT DOOR AJAR SWITCH FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Left Front Door Ajar Switch C526.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Instrument Cluster Door Ajar PIDs.
    • Monitor the door ajar PIDs.
    • Did the door ajar PID change with the switch disconnected? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new door ajar switch. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    • No  : GO to C8.
  8. C8 CHECK CIRCUIT 759 (LG/YE) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220b.
    • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220b-24, circuit 759 (LG/YE), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to  C22.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  9. C9 CHECK THE RIGHT FRONT DOOR AJAR SWITCH FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Right Front Door Ajar Switch C602.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Instrument Cluster Door Ajar PIDs.
    • Monitor the door ajar PIDs.
    • Did the door ajar PID change with the switch disconnected? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new door ajar switch. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    • No  : GO to  C12.
  10. C10 CHECK THE RIGHT REAR DOOR AJAR SWITCH (IF EQUIPPED) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Right Rear Door Ajar Switch C820.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Instrument Cluster Door Ajar PIDs.
    • Monitor the door ajar PIDs.
    • Did the door ajar PID change with the switch disconnected? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new door ajar switch. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    • No  : GO to  C12.
  11. C11 CHECK THE LEFT REAR DOOR AJAR SWITCH (IF EQUIPPED) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Left Rear Door Ajar Switch C715.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Instrument Cluster Door Ajar PIDs.
    • Monitor the door ajar PIDs.
    • Did the door ajar PID change with the switch disconnected? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new door ajar switch for the switch in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    • No  : GO to C12.
  12. C12 CHECK CIRCUIT 760 (PK/LB) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220b.
    • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster connector C220b-23, circuit 760 (PK/LB), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to  C22.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  13. C13 CHECK THE DOOR AJAR PID STATUS WITH THE DIAGNOSTIC TOOL (WITH RKE) 
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Vehicle Security Module Door Ajar PIDs.
    • Monitor the vehicle security module door ajar PIDs while opening and closing the doors.
    • Is the suspect door ajar switch the left front door? 
    • Yes  : LF door, GO to C14.
    • No  : RF door, GO to  C16.

      RR door (Club Cab), GO to  C18.

      LR door (Club Cab), GO to  C20.

  14. C14 CHECK THE LEFT FRONT DOOR AJAR SWITCH FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Left Front Door Ajar Switch C526.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Vehicle Security Module Door Ajar PIDs.
    • Monitor the door ajar PIDs.
    • Did the door ajar PID change with the switch disconnected? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new door ajar switch. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    • No  : GO to C15.
  15. C15 CHECK CIRCUIT 765 (YE/BK) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Vehicle Security Module C2113a.
    • Measure the resistance between the vehicle security module C2113a-4, circuit 765 (YE/BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to  C23.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  16. C16 CHECK THE RIGHT FRONT DOOR AJAR SWITCH FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Right Front Door Ajar Switch C602.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Vehicle Security Module Door Ajar PIDs.
    • Monitor the door ajar PIDs.
    • Did the door ajar PID change with the switch disconnected? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new door ajar switch. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    • No  : GO to C17.
  17. C17 CHECK CIRCUIT 761 (GY/RD) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Vehicle Security Module J2113a.
    • Measure the resistance between the vehicle security module C2113a-5, circuit 761 (GY/RD), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to  C23.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  18. C18 CHECK THE RIGHT REAR DOOR AJAR SWITCH FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Right Rear Door Ajar Switch C820.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Vehicle Security Module Door Ajar PIDs.
    • Monitor the door ajar PIDs.
    • Did the door ajar PID change with the switch disconnected? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new door ajar switch. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    • No  : GO to C19.
  19. C19 CHECK CIRCUIT 760 (PK/LB) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Vehicle Security Module C2113a.
    • Measure the resistance between the vehicle security module C2113a-6, circuit 760 (PK/LB), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to  C23.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  20. C20 CHECK THE LEFT REAR DOOR AJAR SWITCH FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Left Rear Door Ajar Switch C715.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Vehicle Security Module Door Ajar PIDs.
    • Monitor the door ajar PIDs.
    • Did the door ajar PID change with the switch disconnected? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new door ajar switch. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    • No  : GO to C21.
  21. C21 CHECK CIRCUIT 759 (LG/YE) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Vehicle Security Module C2113a.
    • Measure the resistance between the vehicle security module C2113a-11, circuit 759 (LG/YE), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to  C23.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  22. C22 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all instrument cluster connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  23. C23 CHECK FOR CORRECT VEHICLE SECURITY MODULE OPERATION 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect all vehicle security module connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all vehicle security module connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new vehicle security module. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES . TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
