Pinpoint Test I: All The STOPLAMP Are Inoperative

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2009 Mercury Milan, 2009 Lincoln MKZ, and 2009 Ford Fusion. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
  1. I1 CHECK CIRCUIT SBP04 (GN/RD) FOR VOLTAGE
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Stoplamp Switch C278
    • Fig 1: Checking Circuit SBP04 (GN/RD) For Voltage

    • Measure the voltage between the stoplamp switch C278-1, circuit SBP04 (GN/RD), harness side and ground.
    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
    1. YES  : Go to  I3.
    2. NO  : VERIFY the SJB fuse 21 (7.5A) is OK. If OK, go to  I2.
  2. I2 CHECK CIRCUIT SBP04 (GN/RD) FOR AN OPEN
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280a
    • Fig 2: Checking Circuit SBP04 (GN/RD) For Open
      GF0030475Courtesy of FORD MOTOR CO.
    • Measure the resistance between the stoplamp switch C278-1, circuit SBP04 (GN/RD), harness side and the SJB C2280a-8, circuit SBP04 (GN/RD), harness side.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
    1. YES  : Go to  I6.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  3. I3 CHECK THE STOPLAMP SWITCH
      Fig 3: Checking Stoplamp Switch
      GF0023450Courtesy of FORD MOTOR CO.
    • Connect a fused (5A) jumper wire between the stoplamp switch C278-1, circuit SBP04 (GN/RD), harness side and the stoplamp switch C278-4, circuit CCB08 (VT/WH), harness side.
    • Are the stoplamp illuminated?
    1. YES  : REMOVE the jumper wire. INSTALL a new stoplamp switch. REFER to Stoplamp Switch . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    2. NO  : REMOVE the jumper wire. Go to  I4.
  4. I4 CHECK CIRCUIT CCB08 (VT/WH) FOR AN OPEN
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280a
    • Fig 4: Checking Circuit CCB08 (VT/WH) For Open
      GF0030476Courtesy of FORD MOTOR CO.
    • Measure the resistance between the stoplamp switch C278-4, circuit CCB08 (VT/WH), harness side and the SJB C2280a-19, circuit CCB08 (VT/WH), harness side.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
    1. YES  : For Fusion, go to  I6.

For Milan or MKZ, go to  I5.

    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  5. I5 CHECK CIRCUIT CLS17 (YE/GY) FOR AN OPEN
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280e
    • Disconnect: High Mounted Stoplamp C475 (Parcel Shelf) or C4111 (Spoiler)
    • Fig 5: Checking Circuit CLS17 (YE/GY) For An Open
      GF0041643Courtesy of FORD MOTOR CO.
    • Measure the resistance between the high mounted stoplamp C475-1 (parcel shelf) or C4111-1 (spoiler), circuit CLS17 (YE/GY), harness side and the SJB C2280e-26, circuit CLS17 (YE/GY), harness side.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
    1. YES  : Go to  I6.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  6. I6 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION
    • Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • damaged pins
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present?
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
