Test U: O/D Off Indicator Inoperative

  1. Test drive vehicle while switching overdrive from OFF to ON positions. If overdrive operates correctly, go to next step. If overdrive does not operate correctly, repair overdrive concern. See appropriate AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION article in TRANSMISSION SERVICE & REPAIR.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect Transaxle Control Module (TCM) 24-pin White harness connector C277a. TCM is located behind instrument cluster. Connect a fused 10-amp jumper wire between ground and TCM harness connector C277a terminal No. 13 (Blue/Orange wire). See Fig 1. If O/D OFF indicator illuminates, go to next step. If O/D OFF indicator does not illuminate, go to step  4
  3. Disconnect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Inspect for corroded or pushed out pins. Connect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Operate system and verify if concern still exists. If concern still exists, replace instrument cluster. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION . If concern does not exist, system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster 22-pin harness connector C266b. Measure resistance of Blue/Orange wire between instrument cluster harness connector terminal No. 1 and TCM harness connector C277a terminal No. 13. See Figure and Fig 1 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Blue/Orange wire.
  5. Disconnect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Inspect for corroded or pushed out pins. Connect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Operate system and verify if concern still exists. If concern still exists, replace instrument cluster. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION . If concern does not exist, system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
