Test G: Brake Warning Indicator Never On
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connectors C266a (12-pin) and C266b (22-pin). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between instrument cluster harness connectors C266a terminal No. 5 (Yellow/Violet wire) and C266b terminal No. 13 (Blue wire). See Figure and Figure . If voltage is 10 volts or more, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to step 3.
- Disconnect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Inspect for corroded or pushed out pins. Connect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Operate system and verify if concern still exists. If concern still exists, replace instrument cluster. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION . If concern does not exist, system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect brake fluid level switch 2-pin harness connector at brake fluid reservoir. Remove bulb check relay from Central Junction Box (CJB). CJB is located near left front side of engine compartment. Remove joint connector No. 2 from Battery Junction Box (BJB). BJB is located near left front side of engine compartment. Remove shorting strip from joint connector No. 2. Measure resistance of Yellow/Violet wire between instrument cluster 12-pin harness connector C266a terminal No. 5 and specified component harness connector terminals. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION table. If all resistances are less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If any resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Yellow/Violet wire.INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION
Component Harness Connector/Terminal No. Brake Fluid Level Switch C122/1 Joint Connector No. 2 C2011/10 Bulb Check Relay C183/5 - Test bulb check relay. See BULB CHECK RELAY under COMPONENT TESTS. If bulb check relay is okay, go to next step. If bulb check relay is not okay, replace relay.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and bulb check relay socket No. 1 (Blue wire). See Fig 2. If voltage is 10 volts or more, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Blue wire between bulb check relay and battery junction box.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance of Blue/Yellow wire between bulb check relay socket terminal No. 2 and joint connector No. 2 33-pin harness connector C2011 terminal No. 6. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Blue/Yellow wire.
- Measure resistance between ground and brake fluid level switch 2-pin harness connector Black wire terminal. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire between brake fluid level switch and joint connector.
- Remove screen from inside brake fluid reservoir. While moving brake fluid level switch to full and empty position, measure resistance between brake fluid level switch terminals (component side). Resistance should be 10 k/ohms in full position, and less than 5 ohms in empty position. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace brake fluid level switch.
- Disconnect parking brake switch 1-pin harness connector. Measure resistance of Green/Black wire between parking brake switch harness connector terminal and joint connector No. 2 harness connector terminal No. 9. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Green/Black wire.
- Ensure parking brake switch is disconnected. Set parking brake. Measure resistance between ground and parking brake switch terminal (component side). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace shorting strip. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace parking brake switch.
