Test D: Temperature Gauge Inaccurate

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor harness connector C150. ECT sensor is located on right rear side of engine. Connect a fused 10-amp jumper between ground and ECT sensor harness connector Blue/White wire terminal. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If temperature gauge does not indicate "H", go to next step. If temperature gauge indicates "H", replace ECT sensor.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster 12-pin harness connector C266a. Measure resistance of Blue/White wire between ECT sensor harness connector terminal and instrument cluster harness connector C266a terminal No. 9. See Figure. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C266a terminal No. 9 (Blue/White wire). Resistance should be less than 5 ohms between ECT sensor and instrument cluster, and 10 k/ohms or more between instrument cluster and ground. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, repair open or short to ground in Blue/White wire.
  3. Disconnect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Inspect for corroded or pushed out pins. Connect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Operate system and verify if concern still exists. If concern still exists, replace instrument cluster. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION . If concern does not exist, system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
