Test S: O/D Off Light Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) or Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) tester or equivalent scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Access Transmission Control Module (TCM) PIDs. Monitor Overdrive Off Switch (ODS). Depress ODS. If O/D OFF light illuminates and ODS signal is present on NGS tester, replace TCM. See appropriate ELECTRONIC CONTROLS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. If conditions are not as described, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect TCM harness connector C277b. TCM is located in bottom of center console. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C266b. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance of Blue/Orange wire between terminal No. 7 at instrument cluster harness connector C266b and terminal No. 13 at TCM harness connector C277b. See Figure and Fig 1 . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Blue/Orange wire.
  3. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 22 (Green/Orange wire) at TCM harness connector C277b while depressing ODS switch to ON position. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace instrument cluster printed circuit. See PRINTED CIRCUIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  4. Disconnect ODS harness connector C222. ODS is located at top of steering column near gear selector. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 2 (Black wire) at ODS harness connector C222. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire.
  5. Measure resistance of Green/Orange wire between terminal No. 22 at TCM harness connector C277b and ODS harness connector C222. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace ODS. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Green/Orange wire.
