Test H: Charge Indicator Never On
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect 2-pin generator harness connector C117. Using a jumper wire, ground Yellow/Black wire at terminal No. 1 at generator harness connector C117. Turn ignition switch to RUN position and start engine. If charge warning indicator illuminates, repair charging system. See GENERATORS & REGULATORS - VILLAGER article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS. If charge warning indicator does not illuminate, reconnect generator harness connector C117 and go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C266c. Measure voltage between terminal No. 4 (Yellow/Blue wire) and No. 5 (Blue wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C266c. See Figure. If battery voltage exists, replace instrument cluster printed circuit. See PRINTED CIRCUIT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove joint connector C2011. Remove Black diode shorting strip from joint connector C2011. Measure resistance of Yellow/Blue wire between terminal No. 4 at instrument cluster harness connector C266c and terminal No. 5 at joint connector C2011. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Yellow/Black wire.
- Disconnect 2-pin generator harness connector C117. Measure resistance of Yellow/Black wire between terminal No. 1 at generator harness connector C117 and terminal No. 5 at joint connector C2011. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace Black diode shorting strip. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Yellow/Black wire.
