Test N: Service Engine Soon Light Inoperative
NOTE:
SERVICE ENGINE SOON light may also be referred to as Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL).
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C266b. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 2 (Blue wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C266b. See Figure. If battery voltage exists, replace instrument cluster printed circuit. See PRINTED CIRCUIT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) harness connector C275. PCM is located behind glove box. Measure resistance of Violet wire between terminal No. 18 at PCM harness connector C275 and terminal No. 8 at instrument cluster harness connector C266b. See Fig 1. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair PCM malfunction. See SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - VILLAGER article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Violet wire.
