Test J: Oil Pressure Indicator Always On

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect oil pressure switch connector. Turn ignition on. If oil pressure light does not illuminate, go to next step. If oil pressure light illuminates, go to step  3.
  2. Manually check engine oil pressure. See appropriate article in ENGINES. If oil pressure is within specification, replace oil pressure switch. If oil pressure is not within specification, repair engine mechanical problem as necessary. See appropriate article in ENGINES.
  3. Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C267C. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster connector C266 terminal No. 17 (Red wire). If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace instrument cluster. See ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Red wire. Retest system.
