Test N: Service Engine Soon Light Inoperative

NOTE: SERVICE ENGINE SOON light may also be referred to as Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL).
  1. Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C267C. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between instrument cluster connector C267C terminals No. 20 (Blue wire) and No. 1 (Violet wire). See Figure. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace instrument cluster. See ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system. If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector C275. PCM is located behind glove box. Measure resistance of Violet wire between PCM connector C275 terminal No. 18 and instrument cluster connector C267C terminal No. 1. See Fig 1. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair powertrain control concern. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Violet wire.
