Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. See
AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS - VILLAGER article. DO NOT apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.
The electronic instrument cluster consists of a display panel and a microcomputer. It is operational only when ignition is on. Major components are a digital speedometer, odometer, fuel gauge, coolant temperature gauge, message center, and warning indicators. See Fig 1.
