Test N: Service Engine Soon Light Inoperative

NOTE: SERVICE ENGINE SOON light may also be referred to as Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL).
  1. Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C266B. See Figure. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster connector C266B terminal No. 2 (Blue wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace instrument cluster printed circuit. See PRINTED CIRCUIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system. If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector. PCM is located behind glove box. See Fig 1. Measure resistance of Purple wire between PCM connector terminal No. 18 and instrument cluster connector C266B terminal No. 8. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTIC article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Purple wire.
