Test M: High Beam Indicator Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition on. Turn high beam headlights on. If high beam headlights operate properly, go to next step. If high beam headlights do not operate properly, see appropriate wiring diagram in HEADLIGHT SYSTEMS article.
  2. Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  in REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect instrument cluster connectors C266C. Measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster connectors C266C terminal No. 7 (Orange/Blue wire). See Figure. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open or short to ground in Orange/Blue wire. Retest system. If voltage is 10 volts or more, go to next step.
  3. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster connectors C266C terminal No. 1 (Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster printed circuit. See PRINTED CIRCUIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire.
