Test D: Temperature Gauge Inaccurate

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor connector. ECT sensor is located on right rear side of engine. Connect fused jumper between ECT sensor and ground. Turn ignition on. If temperature gauge indicates "H", replace ECT sensor. Retest system. If temperature gauge does not indicate "H", go to next step.
  2. Test temperature gauge, see TEMPERATURE GAUGE  under COMPONENT TESTING. If temperature gauge tests okay, go to next step. If temperature gauge is faulty, replace temperature/fuel gauge assembly. See TEMPERATURE GAUGE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C266A. Disconnect temperature sending unit connector. Measure resistance of Blue/White wire between ECT sensor connector terminal and instrument cluster connector C266A terminal No. 10. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms. See Figure. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster connector C266A terminal No. 10 (Blue/White wire). Resistance should be more than 10 k/ohms. If resistance is as specified, replace instrument cluster printed circuit and retest. See PRINTED CIRCUIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is not as specified, repair open or short to ground in Blue/White wire. Retest system.
