Test H: Charge Indicator Never On

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect 2-pin generator harness connector. Using a jumper wire, ground Yellow/Black wire at generator harness connector. Turn ignition on and start engine. If charge warning indicator glows, repair charging system. See GENERATORS - VILLAGER article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS. If charge warning indicator does not glow, reconnect generator connector and go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C266C. Measure voltage between instrument cluster harness connector C266C terminal No. 4 (Yellow/Blue wire) and No. 5 (Blue wire). See Figure. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace instrument cluster printed circuit. See PRINTED CIRCUIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Remove joint connector C2011. Remove Black diode shorting strip from joint connector C2011. Measure resistance of Yellow/Blue wire between C266C terminal No. 4 and joint connector C2011 terminal No. 5. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair Yellow/Black wire.
  4. Disconnect 2-pin generator harness connector. Measure resistance of Yellow/Black wire between generator harness connector and diode junction box connector C2011 terminal No. 5. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace Black diode shorting strip. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair Yellow/Black wire.
