Test F: Temperature Gauge Inaccurate

  1. Check Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor. See ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR  under COMPONENT TESTS. Repair as necessary. If ECT sensor is okay, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECT wiring harness connector. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C272. See Figure . Measure resistance of Blue/White wire between instrument cluster connector C272 terminal No. 2 and ECT sensor connector. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster connector C272 terminal No. 2 (Blue/White wire). Resistance should be more than 10,000 ohms. If resistances are as specified, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistances are not as specified, repair short in Blue/White wire.
