Test C: Fuel Gauge Always Reads Empty

  1. Check fuel tank sending unit. See FUEL TANK SENDING UNIT  under COMPONENT TESTS. Repair as necessary. If fuel tank sending unit is okay, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect fuel pump assembly connector C343. See Figure . Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C272. See Figure . Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster connector C272 terminal No. 1 (Blue/Red wire). If resistance is 10,000 ohms or more, replace instrument cluster. Refer to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is less than 10,000 ohms or more, repair short in Blue/Red wire.
