Test E: Engine Coolant Temperature Reads Inaccurately

  1. Test temperature sending unit, see TEMPERATURE SENDING UNIT under COMPONENT TESTING  . If temperature sending unit tests okay, go to next step. If temperature sending unit is faulty, replace temperature sending unit. Retest system.
  2. Test temperature gauge, see TEMPERATURE GAUGE under COMPONENT TESTING  . If temperature gauge tests okay, go to next step. If temperature gauge is faulty, replace temperature/fuel gauge assembly. Retest system.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C270. Disconnect temperature sending unit connector. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster connector C270 terminal No. 10 (Blue/White wire). See Figure - Figure . If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace instrument cluster printed circuit and retest. See PRINTED CIRCUIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in Blue/White wire. Retest system.
