Test A: Integrated Circuit Display(S) Inoperative Or Erratic

  1. Check RELAYS (10-amp) fuse. If fuse is okay, go to step 4). If fuse is blown, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Replace RELAYS (10-amp) fuse. Turn ignition on. If fuse does not blow, go to step 4). If fuse blows again, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect negative battery cable. Replace RELAYS (10-amp) fuse. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect instrument cluster connectors. See Figure -Figure . Reconnect negative battery cable and turn ignition on. If fuse does not blow, go to next step. If fuse blows again, repair short to ground in Blue wire between interior fuse panel and instrument cluster.
  4. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect instrument cluster connectors. Check for battery voltage at cluster connector C266 terminal No. 5, connector C268 terminal No. 2 and connector C270 terminal No. 9 (Blue wires). If battery voltage is present at all circuits, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present at all circuits, repair open in appropriate Blue wire.
  5. Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster connector C270 terminals No. 6 (Black wire) connector and C268 terminal No. 5 (Black/Red wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster printed circuit and retest. See PRINTED CIRCUIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open or high resistance in circuit(s) in question and retest system.
