Test D: Inaccurate Fuel Gauge Indication

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect fuel pump assembly connector C343. See Figure . Measure resistance between ground and fuel pump assembly connector Black wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire.
  2. Check fuel tank sending unit. See FUEL TANK SENDING UNIT under COMPONENT TESTS  . Repair if necessary. If fuel tank sending unit is okay, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect fuel pump assembly connector C343. Remove instrument cluster. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  . Disconnect instrument cluster connector C272. See Figure . Measure resistance between instrument cluster connector C272, pin No. 1 (Blue/Red wire) and fuel pump assembly connector Blue/Red wire. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster connector C272, pin No. 1. Resistance should be 10,000 ohms or more. If resistances are as specified, replace instrument cluster. If resistances are not as specified, repair Blue/Red wire.
