Test C: Fuel Gauge Always Reads Empty

  1. Check fuel tank sending unit. See FUEL TANK SENDING UNIT under COMPONENT TESTS  . Repair as necessary. If fuel tank sending unit is okay, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect fuel pump assembly connector C343. See Figure . Remove instrument cluster. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  . Disconnect instrument cluster connector C272. See Figure . Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster connector C272, pin No. 1 (Blue/Red wire). If resistance is 10,000 ohms or more, replace instrument cluster. If resistance is less than 10,000 ohms or more, repair short in Blue/Red wire.
