Test Ab: Seat Belt Warning Never/Always On
- Buckle left and right shoulder belts. Unbuckle driver side lap belt. Turn ignition on then off. Buckle driver side lap belt. Turn ignition on. If seat belt warning chime sounds when lap belt is unbuckled and does not chime when lap belt is buckled, go to next step. If seat belt warning chime does not operate as specified, check for fault in seat belt warning chime.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect seat belt buckle switch connector. Measure resistance between ground and seat belt buckle switch connector Black wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire.
- Leave ignition off. Unbuckle driver side seat belt. Measure resistance between seat belt buckle switch connector terminals. Buckle driver side seat belt. Measure resistance between seat belt buckle switch connector terminals again. If resistance is less than 5 ohms when driver side seat belt is unbuckled and greater than 10,000 ohms when driver side seat belt is buckled, go to next step. If resistances are not as specified, replace driver side seat belt buckle switch.
- Leave ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION . Remove seat belt warning indicator bulb. Check for continuity between indicator bulb terminals. If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, replace bulb.
- Leave ignition off. Reconnect seat belt buckle switch connector. Unbuckle driver side seat belt. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C276. See Figure . Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster connector C276, pin No. 9 (Green wire). Buckle driver side seat belt. Again measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster connector C276, pin No. 9 (Green wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms when driver side seat belt is unbuckled and greater than 10,000 ohms when driver side seat belt is buckled, replace instrument cluster. If resistances are not as specified, repair open or short in Green wire.
